Introduction to Photobiomodulation.
Photobiomodulation involves cells mitochondrion with a process similar to photosynthesis. The molecules responsible for light absorption are cytocromes, in particular the one at mitochondrial level (cytocrome C-oxidase). The structural modification to the mithocondrial membrane contition the process of energy production. Therefore there is a scientific evidence that photobiomodulation of low energy LED is capable to produce photons at very low power and it interacts with extremely precise parameters with the subcellular cromophores to increase ATP production in the mitocondrions.
It has been demonstrated, by means of special microscopical equipment with phase contrast with infrared light, that cultured fibroblast 3T3 preferentially extend pseudopodia towards light sources in the range 800-900 nm with 30-60 impulses per minute.
